Energy is one of the important elements in storage devices, the MP5505A provides a very compact and efficient energy management solutions. It is lossless energy storage and management unit targeted at solid-state and hard-disk drive applications. It’s highly integrated input-current limit and storage and release management makes the system solution very compact.
The circuit operates with an input voltage of 2.7V to 7V. The D1 and D2 diode is optional, the D1 external diode is strongly recommended for normal operation of charge mode where the boost converter works. The voltage rating should be higher than the storage voltage and the current rating should be high than the current programmed by ICH pin and the D2 is a Transient-Voltage-Suppression diode for spikes. It uses a bi-directional Buck/Boost converter to achieve optimal energy transfer and provide the most cost-effective energy storage solution. The energy storage voltage level is raised using the integrated boost converter. The storage voltage is set by the storage feedback resistor divider. If the input voltage suddenly shuts down, the energy in the storage capacitor will be transferred by the internal Buck converter to the bus voltage and keep holds the bus voltage when the system consumes the energy from the storage capacitor. The buck converter can work in 100% duty cycle operation to fully deplete the stored energy.
